Could labor issues overshadow NBA All-Star week? (AP via Yahoo! Sports)
The NFL's party week was briefly interrupted by a sobering message about the league's labor situation. Now it could be the NBA's turn. The league's collective bargaining agreement also will expire in 2011, and management and the players' association will meet next weekend during the All-Star events in Dallas as they try to negotiate a new one.

Alex Ovechkin scored an arena-rocking hat trick and got the assist on the winning goal in overtime Sunday, and the Capitals kept up their pursuit of NHL history with their 14th straight victory, 5-4 over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Mike Knuble poked in the rebound 2:49 into overtime after Ovechkin's shot hit the post during a Capitals power play.

Peters makes 34 saves in NHL debut (AP via Yahoo! Sports)
Carolina coach Paul Maurice said he couldn't ease in goalie Justin Peters like other rookies. But the 23-year-old Peters didn't need much assistance in his NHL debut, turning aside 34 shots to lead the Hurricanes to a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday night. "I was so happy for him," Maurice said.
